Málaga ceramicists open a shared firing studio
Four independent makers have joined forces around a low-energy kiln and public workshop program.
Four independent ceramic artists working in the Málaga Centro and Soho districts have formalised a collective studio arrangement around a shared low-energy wood-and-gas kiln installed in a former industrial unit on Calle Carretería.
The studio, operating under the name Taller Común, will offer scheduled public firing sessions and a fortnightly workshop program aimed at intermediate-level practitioners seeking access to larger kiln infrastructure without studio overhead.
The four founding members bring complementary disciplines — functional ware, sculptural vessel, architectural tile, and slip-cast edition work — and have agreed a shared-cost model that reduces fixed costs by roughly forty per cent compared to solo studio arrangements.
The collective model responds to the difficulty of sustaining independent practice in a city where studio space costs have risen significantly alongside residential demand.
